The Mountain Pro shoes are the latest to use Specialized's Body Geometry technology, which has been scientifically designed to work with your body.
Bulges under the forefoot and instep spread pedal pressure and increase support, and optional orthotic shims can be fitted to angle your foot and correct knee misalignment. It all feels a bit odd at first, but if you've got dodgy knees or sore feet this technology really does help.
They're excellent shoes in their own right too. The FACT carbon fibre sole puts power straight through to the pedals, the midcompound tread grips well without shredding after a few miles of scrambling and there are optional toe studs for muddy climbs.
The fit and security are excellent, the shoes are impressively light and they're long lasting. It's worth protecting the sole with a shim if you're using barred pedals like Eggbeaters or Times though, because - like most shoes - the carbon gouges quickly.
