Some of the finest shoes we’ve seen. They’re so comfy you’ll never take them off

Winter may not be ideal for white shoes, but these ultra-high-spec models from Gaerne clean up so well and feel so good that we now live in them – plus cars can spot them a mile off.

Made in Italy and oozing cycling chic, the G.Wallaby is a top-end race shoe made from leather and injection moulded plastic.

Twin velcro straps at the front and a high quality aluminium buckle allow for a secure yet comfy fit. Unlike many race shoes, the tongue is well padded and keeps the top of your feet comfy even with the straps done up tight.

Out back, a sturdy heel cup holds your ankle securely – and feels as good as the brilliant Sidi Dragon III shoes we recently rode, although it does lack adjustability. The sole is wider at the heel, making them better for walking in.

The sole is very stiff, but combined with the supple leather insole, surprisingly comfortable to walk in. A carbon-soled version is also available, but will be so stiff that only racers need apply. The standard version is so comfy that you’ll want to use these all the time, and studs can be retro-fitted for really foul conditions.
