Functional trail-side tool at a good weight, although a little stiff

The Tom 18 multi-tool comes in a handy neoprene pouch and houses Allen keys from 2.5 to 8mm, a T25 Torx key, Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers, chaintool, spoke keys, brake pad spreader and a bottle opener.

The orange plastic mystery widget holds a spare chain-joining pin, which is a useful inclusion. We had some trouble with the bolts that hold the tool together loosening, but a touch of Threadlock solved that problem.

The tool’s 70mm length means you’ll get enough leverage for trail-side tightening but at the same time it won’t take up too much valuable pack space. It’s not heavy and isn’t expensive either, making it a good pack tool.
