The MTB-5 Rescue multi-tool is designed by Park Tool with a focus on durability, quality and MTB-specific tools.
It's designed to tackle a wide range of mechanicals, including disc brake and tubeless sealant related issues.
Held in place with a U-shaped piece of steel, the sturdiness of this multi-tool is evident.
Park Tool MTB-5 Rescue Tool spec details
Rather than a set of bolts that can come undone, the parts of the MTB-5 multi-tool are held in place with countersunk nuts within matt-finish plastic sidebars.
Comfortable in the hand, the tools are cut precisely, as you would expect from Park Tool, and easy to access individually.
The replaceable pin in the chain breaker tool ensures sustainability.
Park Tool MTB-5 Rescue Tool performance
With its utilitarian looks, the practicality of the MTB-5 is at the forefront. Tools are easily identifiable and of an even length.
Each one is crafted from nickel-plated hardened steel and fits cleanly into bolts, making it less likely for them to slip even when force is applied.
With the main Allen keys and a T25 driver included, the extra functions on this multi-tool are given to brake- and tyre-related issues. The chain breaker doubles as a piston press and includes a rotor-truing tool on its long face.
In addition to two well-cut spoke keys, there is a larger notch cut into the truing tool that undoes Presta valve cores to help with sealant replacement and getting the tyre back on the rim after a puncture.
The shape, strength and weight of this multi-tool make it easy to break even the most stubborn chains and, as you would expect from Park Tool, the chain breaker pin is replaceable.
Detaching the chain breaker from the tool, you can use the spoke keys, piston press, rotor-truing tool and valve core remover easily without catching on and damaging other surfaces.
Only the 8mm Allen key is shorter than the others, but it still works efficiently for removing pedals.
While there are not additional sizes of screwdriver or Torx driver, the ones provided were sufficient for all the needs I had while out riding (on bikes with Shimano, SRAM and Hope kit).
Park Tool MTB-5 Rescue Tool bottom line
The MTB-5 Rescue Tool is not as attractive looking as some of the best multi-tools, but that shouldn't be a major issue.
The quality and engagement of the individual tools on this multi-tool make it a good choice for longevity and ease of use. I'd happily choose it for its practicality and quality.
