Fizik's Terra Alpaca X5 saddle is available by itself or with this nifty little bolt-on carrier and multi-tool. You’ll need a T10 Torx key to attach the tool carrier, but once in place, it’s rock solid.
As well as the multi-tool, it’ll also hold two threaded CO2 cartridges (which aren’t included, but can help get you out of a sticky situation). The compact tool is held in place with a hooked rubber flap that’s proven secure so far.
It has 12 functions, including Allen keys from 2 to 8mm, T10 and T25 Torx wrenches, two screwdrivers and a nicely integrated CO2 inflater head.
While it’s well made and the bits are accurately sized, they’re quite short, so are fine for some jobs but you’ll struggle with others. Its 50mm overall length also means leverage is a little limited.
The saddle comes in a single 145mm width, but that worked well for me. Fizik says the compliant carbon-reinforced nylon shell and S-Alloy rails contribute to the comfort, but the padding and generous central trough make a real difference, too.
There’s also enough cushioning on the nose to keep your undercarriage pain-free when you’re perched over the front.
At 374g, with the tool and carrier in place but without CO2 cartridges, the weight is also respectable.
