Incredibly useful tool for imaginative modifications

Every now and then a product comes along that leaves us wondering why we’ve waited so long for it, and Sugru’s self setting rubber is one of those things.

It feels a little like Blu-Tack, but Sugru is a silicone rubber that hardens at room temperature overnight and can withstand temperatures from -50ºC up to 180ºC – so that covers most UK conditions, then.

It adheres to almost any surface and sets as a flexible rubber, making it useful for all sorts of mountain bike-related maintenance. We’ve used it to fashion brake lever grips and chainstay protectors, and even waterproofed summer shoes by covering up vents. So far we have been incredibly impressed with its performance.

Sugru is activated by air the second you open it, so you need to use it straight away and have about 30 minutes to shape it before it starts to harden.

All you need to use Sugru is a little imagination. It’s an incredible product for mountain bikers who like to make things better.
