Our review
A versatile track pump with high-volume and high-pressure settings that maintains a level of quality you'd expect at this price

Pros:

Effective at pumping high-volume and high-pressure tyres; dedicated mountain bike gauge

Cons:

Not the most stable; materials feel cheap; handle is not as comfortable as other pumps

The Truflo SuperTrax Floor Pump is designed for use on both mountain bike and road bike tyres.

I found the high-volume setting efficient, pumping a 29x2.4in tyre to 25psi in only 20 strokes, with the high-pressure setting up-to-standard on 700c road bike tyres.

The pressure gauge is split into two halves. The first half reads up to 40psi in 5psi increments for high-volume mountain bike tyres, and the second half continues up to 160psi in 10psi increments for road tyres.

At 40psi, Truflo recommends switching to the high-pressure setting. Nick Clark / Our Media

I found the gauge to be relatively accurate compared to my benchmark pump gauge, a Topeak JoeBlow. The 5psi increments enabled more accurate readings of the tyre pressure within the 40psi range.

The head of the pump is compatible with both Presta and Schrader valve types, and requires no modification to change between the two.

The head gives a positive click when inserted fully. Nick Clark / Our Media

Pressing the head onto the valve is easy, with a click indicating the stem is inserted fully. The lever is easily operated, though it was noticeably more difficult to pull back on Schrader valves compared to other pumps I've tested.

The SuperTrax’s party piece is on the handle, where the switch for high-volume and high-pressure is located. In my testing, the system worked very well, enabling quick changes between the settings. It gives a reassuring click when you move from one setting to the other.

The handle is comfy enough for short durations. However, I found the tapered handle led to my fingers looping around and touching my palm, causing discomfort after prolonged use.

I found the pumping action of the Truflo SuperTrax not as natural as other pumps I've tested, with the baseplate offering little support when pushing forward. This made it less stable, especially when one-foot pumping.

However, with two feet planted, the pump proved stable enough to cope with even the most manic technique.

A 900mm hose connects to the bottom of the pump, and a fuss-free routing system sees the hose secure the handle by looping over and being held in place by two clips. This leaves the head able to knock the chamber, but makes for much faster storage.

Truflo SuperTrax Floor Pump bottom line

The simple clips at the top of the cylinder do a good job of hose management. Nick Clark / Our Media

Truflo’s SuperTrax doesn’t offer the same refined quality as the best bike pumps, with play between the piston and chamber making it feel unsteady at times.

However, it's a good option for high-volume and high-pressure tyres, and the construction is very much on a par with other pumps in its price range.
