Topeak's Twister won the 'best track pump that isn't the Rennkompressor' gong in the last test, so how does its much cheaper sibling shape up?
The JoeBlow Max is well made, and the big barrel pushes a lot of air - 100psi comes up in just 15 strokes. However, for a track pump it's quite hard going at higher pressures. The side-by-side head is a bit fiddly, and not the easiest to attach. The big, yellow gauge is accurate and easy to read, but the whole gauge assembly just feels a little fragile; it's not the kind of track pump you could kick around the workshop. Overall it's not a bad pump, but there are better options out there if you can spend just a bit more money.
