Our review
A near-perfect helmet from Cannondale that defies its modest price tag

Pros:

Comfort; quality; value

Cons:

You might need to trim the straps

Cannondale has recently entered the helmet market with a concise collection of aesthetically minimalist models targeting different riding disciplines.

The Junction is an all-road/gravel offering intended to be versatile across a range of riding types, at an accessible price.

It's available in three colour options: black, grey and blue.

Cannondale Junction helmet spec details

Out of the box, the single-colour matt/gloss combination immediately looks expensive.

Closer inspection reveals the shell wraps fully underneath the helmet edge, giving a high-quality finish designed to offer additional durability.

The small peak is largely cosmetic – it suggests suitability for gravel riders without venturing into mountain bike helmet territory. It can be removed if you prefer.

Inside, the Junction is equipped with MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact-Protection System). There are pads through the front and a thumbwheel ratchet system at the rear for tightening the cradle.

Cannondale Junction helmet performance

The Junction is available in two sizes (S/M and L/XL), ranging from 54 to 61cm head circumference. I tested the L/XL size, which weighed 320g.

That’s relatively light considering it extends deep over the back of the head.

It creates a reassuringly protected feel for gravel riding, but not at the expense of comfort.

The straps are easy to adjust and, because they have the flat Y spacer, they sit well and don’t tend to twist.

It sets them wide over the ears and makes everything more comfortable, even when tightened right up. The helmet feels really well balanced too.

The Y-shaped strap splitters don’t just do a neat job of pulling together the front and rear cradle straps, they create a fit that’s comfortable to ride in.

There’s plenty of room for adjustment because the straps are very long (you may want to trim them).

The helmet's 23 vents did their job on hot days and ventilation was more effective than I expected.

In less challenging temperatures, the light weight and efficient air flow mean you might forget you’re wearing this helmet, which is what you want from the best road bike helmets.

Cannondale Junction helmet bottom line

It’s hard to find fault with Cannondale's versatile, comfortable and well-vented Junction helmet.

It gets on with its job quietly while looking and feeling as though it should cost more than it does.
