I was shocked to see such a low price-tag on the Bell Avenue helmet, especially because it features MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System).
It is a little heavier than some at 310g, though, but it certainly doesn’t feel heavy on your head. Being a Bell helmet, the Avenue has a good pedigree too, so you know you’re in safe hands.
The 18-vent shell features a tough-wearing polycarbonate outer and I liked the matt black colourway I tested. There are reflective logos and detailing on the side and rear to help keep you seen at night.
The vents, along with inner channelling, did a good job of pulling air in and flowing over the head to keep you cool on warm days.
The rear dial retention system made for easy fitting and Bell has used soft webbing on the side straps. These also feature reflective detailing and the no-twist tri-glides made it easy to get the perfect fit around the ears.
The Avenue might not have the small refinements of some of the more expensive MIPS helmets on the market, but the performance, user-friendly features and top-end safety make it outstanding value.
