Direct selling big value powerhouse Superstar have just overhauled their wheel line and these AM wheels are a very versatile, very bling bargain.
The AM490 rims are wide enough to fatten a 2.3in tyre up nicely and at less than 2kg they’re light enough to accelerate okay out of corners and cruise climbs. The Evo hubs pick up relatively quickly and they switch easily between different axle sizes.
The basic black wheelset is £159.99 but ours was upgraded with anodised rims (five colour options for £20 more), Sapim Race spokes (add £25) and alloy nipples (add £10).
The wheels are built to order in the UK, with no obvious twang or twist even when working them hard and there’s a two-year warranty. For the money they’re very impressive.
