The QR-axled XT hubs use 24 direct-pull double-butted spokes and angular contact bearings for better radial and lateral support. Precise bearing adjustment, double contact grease seals and easy maintenance add to the attraction.
We like Shimano’s Center Lock disc mounts but you can convert back to six-bolt. Aluminium axles trim more weight and Shimano’s rim design has proven durable over the years for general cross-country use. Rims are fine with tubeless or tubed tyres but riders wanting over 2.3in wide might prefer a wider rim.
