Our review
A hardy set of excellent wheels with great extras

These Stingers offer an incredibly lightweight build – 1,514g for the pair (front 677g, rear 837g) – along with wheel bags and spare spokes, nipples and bearings.

They even come with freehub cassette bodies to suit both Shimano and Campag devotees, and are finished in a classy black and gold colour scheme.

Alluring looks and extras aside, what are they like to use? At first glance they look like a lightweight climbing wheelset, but we’ve been using them as all-purpose winter training hoops and have been pleasantly surprised at just how quickly they’ve proved to be robust.

We were initially apprehensive about both their hard cornering and sprinting abilities, but we needn’t have worried; they’ve been in constant use since October and in that time we’ve often pushed them on hard, winding descents but failed to make them step out of line.

In fact, only the front has needed a little attention from one major pothole hit that would have made even the toughest wheel give a little. On price, strength and compliance on the ups, these are hard to fault.
