Using a new rim extrusion process and slimmer spokes, Fulcrum have shed over 100g from the weight of the Racing 3s. The non-drilled outer surface means a stronger rim and no need for rim tape, while the milled inner surface saves more grams.
The rear wheel uses different spoke gauges on each side in seven groups of three – 14 on the drive side and seven widely dished on the non-drive side – and with the 16-spoke radial front wheel, makes a responsive wheelset that's stiff without feeling harsh.
Sprints or climbing efforts translate into rapid forward motion, which is easy to maintain, and handling feels light and nimble, great for flicking around road defects. Aluminium hub axles, adjustable bearings and an aero spoke anti-rotation system, which appears to work, complete the package. The Racing 3s are supplied with a magnet for replacing nipples as well as a two-year warranty.
