Easton’s Havocs look great and work well as fat, fast cross-country/trail wheels. The 28mm box-section rims have held up to a bit of hucking, and they’re certainly not shy of slamming through rocky sections.
Despite only having 24 skinny double-butted straight-pull spokes they feel tight and responsive unless you really stress them. Light rims and low spoke count mean good acceleration, but the rear hub is quite heavy.
These second generation versions hide up-rated oversized bearings inside the neat flangeless hubs, reliability now seems well up to par with similar wheels and the plug-in 20mm adaptors also fit more snugly. 15mm versions should be available soon too, although it’s quick-release-only at the back.
