American Classic Topanga review

Starting at the edges, we have a pair of pinned rims with a fairly pronounced joint and slightly uneven braking surfaces. The front is laced up radially with 24 spokes onto a smallish hub with small, slightly rough cartridge bearings.

Starting at the edges, we have a pair of pinned rims with a fairly pronounced joint and slightly uneven braking surfaces.

The front is laced up radially with 24 spokes (straight gauge using regular brass nipples) onto a smallish hub with small, slightly rough cartridge bearings. The rear is laced up three cross with 28 spokes onto a large and weighty hub. The freehub feels far less smooth than many others here, but the build is nice and tight, if not that straight. In use they feel quite heavy, with a sluggish acceleration but lots of high speed stability. No amount of abuse knocked them out of true though, and no spokes came loose despite our best efforts and even a bit of cheeky cyclocross.
