WTB’s Frequency i-23 32-hole rims are drilled for standard spokes so they can be built up as a custom tubeless wheelset.
The main aims of the rim are optimum strength-to-weight ratio for all-mountain riding, and universal tubeless tyre compatibility. At a claimed weight of 475g per rim, a 1,800g (3.97lb) wheelset build is certainly achievable.
We used WTB’s sealant, rim tape and valves with several tyre brands and were extremely impressed with their compatibility, and how easy it was to inflate them. As well as contributing to lateral stiffness, the 23mm internal rim width provided good support for our 2.3in test tyres, and was even sufficiently wide to maintain a good profile on our 2.5in alpine-type tyres.
Having tested them on rough and rocky terrain in the Alps, we were happy to have suffered no air loss or burping, and were again impressed because they remained largely unscathed even at low tyre pressures.
