Halo’s new Supa Drive takes the idea of noisy freehubs one step further. With its manic sounding 120tooth ratchet engagement system, it almost screams rather than clicks (most ratchet pawl hubs have just 24 teeth).
The benefit is almost instant engagement, with power driven into the rear wheel as soon as the cranks turn forward. This is great for four-cross and street, or for dropping that last crank in before a gap.
The noise takes some getting used to – the bike sounds like it is going three times as quick as it is, which can be off-putting and can make setting your speed for jumps a little difficult while your ears get used to the aural assault!
