Vittoria's Tech tyres are protected with Mithril. No, not fictional dwarf-mined metal but ‘a lightweight, tear-resistant polymer weave that’s applied to the tyre sidewall’. We found this slashed relatively easily, though, and the puncture-resistant belt under the tread wasn’t that tough either.
The tyre rolls okay, despite having a theoretically less supple casing than many other road tyres, with just 60 threads per inch instead of 120 or so. Grip is fine too, in spite of rather than because of the cross-hatch pattern on the tyre shoulders – although that will function as a handy wear gauge.
