Our review
A durable, good-value tubeless training tyre that won't let you down

Pros:

Great wet grip; easy tubeless setup; hookless-compatible

Cons:

Heavier than claimed; rigid casing

The Schwalbe One TLE is the German brand's ‘performance line’ tubeless tyre, which is pitched to provide an affordable and durable alternative to its premium Pro One offering.

In theory, it’s more suited to training or commuting than racing, where every watt counts.

While the One TLE understandably drops some performance versus the fastest tubeless tyres around today, it’s a very good option if you don’t want to spend top money.

Schwalbe One TLE details and specifications

The One TLE utilises Schwalbe’s Addix rubber compound, which provided excellent wet-weather grip during testing.

Puncture protection comes in the form of what Schwalbe calls RaceGuard – a strip of two layers of cross-ply nylon fabric, combined with a 67 TPI carcass.

This is Schwalbe's most affordable tubeless tyre, and a tube-type version is also available.

‘TLE’ stands for ‘Tubeless Easy’, and I found the Schwalbe One lived up to this name, with installation very straightforward using a track pump.

The One TLE Is available in 700x25, 28, 30 and 32c, either in black or a retro-styled bronze sidewall.

The Schwalbe One TLE costs £61.99. That compares to the Continental GP5000 AS TR at £89.95 and the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons at £52. If nothing else, it demonstrates the broad range of prices for performance all-season type tyres.

Schwalbe One TLE performance

On the road, the One TLE proved to be reliable throughout my test period.

I put the tyre’s puncture protection to the test, both on some of my favourite pothole-ridden lanes and through plenty of city-centre glass and debris. I didn't experience any significant cuts or damage.

The tyre feels thick and durable, particularly in comparison to the visually similar Schwalbe Pro One.

Despite their similar appearance, these are two very different road bike tyres and on switching between them the One TLE feels noticeably slower-rolling. This is unsurprising given its intentions as a more durable training tyre.

The One TLE also felt draggier than the Continental GP5000 AS TR.

I have been testing the black 700x28c version and found the tyres to measure up at 29.5mm when fitted to 21mm internal-width rims. This is fairly consistent with measurements I’ve taken from the premium Pro One or the Continental GP5000.

The One TLE is compatible with all rims that meet ETRTO standards, so you should be free from compatibility headaches whether you’re in the hooked or hookless camp.

The brand points out that due to the comparatively high volume of tyres on hookless rims, the practical tyre pressures required are significantly lower. Schwalbe publishes its own maximum pressure recommendations here.

The Addix rubber compound gives great wet-weather grip and was confidence-inspiring when descending in sodden conditions.

As far as the scales are concerned, the One TLE came in at 362g per tyre, which is 32g each heavier than claimed, and makes it one of the heavier options within its category.

It’s 18g per tyre heavier than Goodyear’s Vector 4Seasons, and approximately 50g heavier than the GP5000 AS TR.

Weight isn’t everything though, and the thicker rubber of the One TLE will likely result in greater long-term durability.

Schwalbe One TLE bottom line

The Schwalbe One TLE proved to be a solid tubeless training tyre. It's easy to fit, dependable and presented no durability issues.

It’s unlikely to win any prizes for speed, but that’s to be expected for a tyre within this category.

At £61.99, the One TLE sits at the affordable end of the tubeless tyre spectrum and would make a great choice for riders prioritising value and durability over saving every last watt.
