‘TG’ means ‘Tour Guard’, which is what Panaracer call the Kevlar belt under the tread. This does a decent job at stopping sharps coming through but it doesn’t run bead to bead, and while the polyamide cord in the casing is stronger than average we found that the sidewalls could be slashed relatively easily.
The upside of thin, supple sidewalls is that the Stradius Sport rolls better than some tyres almost twice its price. While it’s quite heavy, the extra mass comes not from an excess of rubber in the tread – which could drag – but rather from the beads, which are wire rather than Kevlar.
