When you're turbo training you can run an old tyre into oblivion or fit an indoor tyre like this. Since it doesn’t need wet weather or cornering grip, the rubber compound can be unyielding and tough.
It didn’t get as hot as the outdoor Conti Ultra Gatorskin tyre we compared it to, and Continental claim that the rubber is less likely to separate from the casing. It was marginally quieter too, the thicker rubber deadening the sound.
It’s not cheap, but if you have a dedicated turbo bike – or a dedicated turbo wheel – it’s worth having. It comes in two sizes: 700x23 tested, weighing 300g, and 1.75in for mountain bikes.
