Fitted saddles are becoming more common, and they make a lot of sense because the saddle is sized to your body.
There are a range of saddles available from SQ Lab for a range of riding styles, and each of these are available in a number of widths. SQ Lab’s dealer network have a specific sizing stool which provides your own personal bum print to determine which width you require.
Once the sizing is achieved, your weight is correctly supported by the pelvis bone, which avoids pressure in more sensitive areas. In practice, the saddle does take a little getting used to.
The profile is very flat indeed, with a trough swaged through the centre. This, combined with the relatively hard padding on this 611 model, does make it feel uncomfortable at first – it feels as through there’s excessive localised pressure on your sit bones.
Don’t worry though, it’s supposed to be like that. You get used to the slightly unusual pressure distribution and as you do, you really will reap the benefits of being correctly supported, and the relief of pressure on the perineum area.
