We’re big fans of thin profile, big platform pedals. These Park Hill Flats from On-One look appealing at first glance with their large inboard bearings and wide platforms.
Once on the bike though, the bearing housings really get in the way – so much so that the most inboard pins are barely in contact with your shoe if you have big feet – and prevent you making the most of the Park Hills’ size.
The nine pins per side can be removed with a socket or Allen key and bite into softer soled shoes enough to give some grip. The platforms are totally flat though, and don’t cup your feet when riding. This means you feel perched on top of the Park Hills, which doesn’t boost confidence when heading into the rough stuff.
The bearings were initially very tight, to the point where resistance could be felt when riding, but wore in reasonably quickly, and the rebuild process is easy should you need to get the pedals apart. The Park Hills have stood up well to some abuse, shrugging off rock strikes and grinds, and they shed mud well on wet days too. They’re currently available at half price.
