The 98mm width of Nukeproof's Proton flat pedals means they’re plenty broad enough to handle even the clumpiest of Five Ten soles, and with a platform that’s just 17mm deep, ground clearance isn’t an issue, even on really low slung frames. Our test pedals have shrugged off the knocks without fuss, and even after some hefty abuse in grim conditions they’re still spinning smoothly.
The platform isn’t massively concave, so the Protons don’t cup your feet quite as securely as they could. That said, the 10 grub screw pins per side offer up a decent amount of grip and cling on to your soles even through chattery rock sections and root riddled trails. We’d prefer to see the pins screw in from the rear of the platform though, for easier maintenance and adjustment.
