Aerodynamics seems to be de rigueur with designers of bike kit, and in this case even the humble pedal gets an aero makeover. Look have used compressed carbon fibre to form a smooth and solid shell around the base, helping to reduce their drag without compromising weight.
Despite the drag-defying shell, their weight is only five grams more than a standard carbon Keo Blade pedal (185g), yet they offer the same snappy clipped-in feeling and large pedaling surface as their non-aero sibling. We can’t fault their performance, but at £249.99 we can’t help wondering how much drag they really save when they’re hiding underneath your clumpy cycling shoes.
We suspect gains will be small. So if you’re someone who thinks “every second counts” and you’ve got the bank balance to back it up, these sexy pedals might be next on your shopping list. For the rest of us they’re “what I’d buy if I won the Lottery”.
