The chromoly steel axles of these Look Keo-compatible pedals run on really smooth bearings that are sealed away effectively, and they’re easy to service if you have a Shimano axle removal tool (£2.99, www.madison.co.uk).
The lightweight thermoplastic pedal body can stand up to knocks, a little gauge helps you with tension adjustment and, unusually, the coil spring is enclosed behind a dust cover – it doesn’t keep water out though.
The pedals themselves are good value, but the cleats are disappointing – they wear fast and although they’re supposed to be non-slip, we didn’t find them at all grippy when walking on damp roads (that’ll teach us).
