Cheap and effective way to raise your handlebars

Swapping your stem can be a cheap and easy way to sort out your riding position. With a 40-degree rise, this stem brings the bars up and back. The horizontal extension for the 115mm stem is about the same as an 80mm stem with a 5 degree rise – with the bars about 3cm higher.

It’s made from cold-forged aluminium with a two-bolt, 25.4mm clamp, and comes in 80, 100, 115 and 130mm lengths, in black or silver. The 115mm version weighs 206g.

System EX also does 31.8mm four-bolt stems with a 35 degree rise. Either type is great for converting a mountain bike for city or drop bar usage, or for anyone who doesn’t like feeling too leaned over.
