Decent stiffness and weight make for a solid, reliable component

The Evolve range is RaceFace’s mid-range component lineup. The stem’s pitched as an all-rounder, with cross-country, trail and all-mountain in its remit.

It’s forged from 6061 aluminium, with an unusual kind of hybrid round/octagonal cross-section. Up front there’s an interlocking clamp with plenty of metal around the threads, while at the back two opposing bolts grip the steerer.

It’s entirely competent, being adequately stiff and a reasonable weight – our 70mm stem, the shortest of the five, came in at under 150g. The price is fine for what is a perfectly good if unremarkable piece of kit.
