This is the more affordable of the two stems in the Race Face range intended for road bikes, and if you’re counting the grams it’s also quite heavy for a nonadjustable stems, at 167g in a 120mm version.
The 6061 aluminium alloy offering has a distinctive channel down the side which, oddly, makes the stem look longer than it is, but will also add to cantilevered stiffness slightly, something which was easily seen in our deflection testing and our riding impressions.
The two-piece bar clamp is made from heat treated 2014 aluminium alloy and has U- shaped ends which interlock with the main stem, resulting in a more even hoop stress when they’re tightened.
