Stiff and sleek, but pricey with it

Bontrager's Race XXX Lite OS Carbon Road is the company's top of the range stem. Its £150 price tag reflects this, and while it looks sleek and feels very stiff to ride, it's a hard one to justify for the money.

The 110mm model that we tested weighs 140g, which is actually 20g heavier than Bontrager claims for its Race X Lite OS aluminium stem, and yet the Race X Lite is a third of the price. Still, if money's no object then it will certainly look and feel very good on your new Trek Madone, which is the bike it's designed for.

The Race XXX Lite features a four-bolt face plate to clamp onto the bars and opposing steerer clamp bolts. It's angled at seven degrees and will fit 28.6mm steerers and 31.8mm handlebars.
