Pros:

Angled tops, flared drops, great comfort

Cons:

Width measurement is misleading

PRO’s new Discover gravel handlebar comes in carbon fibre or this more affordable 6066 alloy version. With angled tops, flared drops and great comfort, it's a smart choice for gravel riding.

Available in widths from 40 to 44cm, my 42cm example weighs 276g and is measured between the points where the top edges of the lever hoods meet the bar. Its 12-degree flare makes it 47cm across the bar ends.

The bar has a 75mm reach and 110mm drop with a smooth, ergonomic bend, an ideal match for the lever and hood design of Shimano’s GRX gravel groupsets.

It also works well with SRAM’s 1x levers, providing comfortable hand holds and easy lever reach from the drops.

The tops are flattened underneath with a wider, rounded top surface that’s angled towards you. It’s comfortable and compatible with Shimano’s new RX812 sub-brake lever.

Ultimately, however, PRO’s Discover gravel bar takes what’s best about compact road bars, and adds flare and an angled top.

There’s plenty of useful straight bar between the fairly tight top bends, and the user-friendly flared drops ensure stabilised control at speed and when carrying luggage.

Comfort is good, too. When hauling on the bar it dulled vibrations well during my high tyre pressure test.

PRO’s Discover gravel bar does everything it needs to, for a sensible price: it's an understated, practical and effective option for riders who want a flared handlebar for multi-terrain riding.
