Our review
Super-wide and reasonably priced handlebar at an impressive weight

At 820mm, SMAC's SW820 Moto Bar almost makes the Truvativ BooBar look as though it's from the early 90s. That kind of width might be overkill for many, but for riders running bar extensions or motorcycle bars the SW820 could be perfect.

The AL7075-T6 butted aluminum bar only comes in a 31.8mm clamp size, which carries the diameter into the rise, making for an impressively stiff product at a very reasonable 330g (uncut).

Feature-wise, the bar comes in either a Low (19mm) or High (38mm) rise, and both versions have a 5-degree rearward and 9-degree upward sweep. Nice, wide guide lines around the clamp surface help with bar adjustment, and 1/4in graduated lines make symmetrical bar cut-downs painless.

Our SW820 was ridden at full width for a 12-hour downhill race, and while the added width took a couple of runs to get used to, it allowed for an impressively controlled position.

That said, the bar ended up being cut down to 30in, mostly for tree clearance on some of our favorite trails. The sweep was comfortable, if not somewhat standard, and only added to the positive control we received from the stiff, wide bar.

If you're wondering where the name SMAC came from, company founder Shawnee MacGovern is known by most as Shawnee Mac, which shortens down to…
