Control Tech’s Scandium bar (aluminium-scandium alloy, for pedants) is a stiff, light 26in bar with motocross-style positioning that’s better than most offerings in the prolific mid-width, mid-weight, mid-price trail bar category.
The mix of low bend section and high upsweep to the tips also favours riders who like moto-style rotated wrists and raised elbows but don’t want a tall bar overall. Not everyone gets on with this shape though.
Scandium isn’t as fashionable as it was but Control Tech is one of a few manufacturers to have persevered and harnessed its capabilities.
Control Tech’s triple-butted, heat-treated 7075 aluminium alloy bar is also worth a look – it’s the same shape, 30g heavier at 258g but a bit cheaper. That said, weight weenies will have no trouble justifying the very reasonable extra cost of the Scandium bar.
