Our review
Mid-pack stiffness and a fair price, but there are lighter options available for less money

The Rage T is an entry-level 6066 alloy arm, triple ring crank that supports Control Tech's top-end carbon fibre, double ring Double Play model. It has a sleek, strong look, and the design delivers performance, judging by the not-so-shabby stiffness numbers it put out on our test jig.

This stiffness is provided by broad deep arms with lots of material at the bottom bracket and four thick spider fingers to support the chainrings. It has to be said we didn’t detect this in ride testing – proof that even highly tuned testers can only tell so much.

The reverse facing bolts are a neat touch, smoothing out the profile and not making access to the ring any tougher. The crank is a bit chunky, giving away 100g to the similarly priced Shimano SLX, but at least you know the added mass of alloy is being well used to add stiffness. It’s the duo of SLX and Deore that will give the Rage the most competition on the shop floor.
