With its direct brake mount, external rebound adjust, scalloped metal air preload cap, bolt-on hose clip, and full 140mm travel, the Epicon has all the latest features. SR’s unique QLoc 15mm axle plugs in easily from either side, and while it’s still flexy, weight is reasonable for the cost.
Generous negative spring length means it’s fairly supple from new and it’s smooth enough through most stroke speeds and bump sizes if you’re cruising. It only started getting confused and jarring through the wrists or losing traction/rebound control when we started slapping square-edged stuff hard or serious strikes got into double figures within a few metres of trail.
Even then it never got too badly buckaroo-like compared to bigger brand name forks at similar prices. The cable-operated travel adjust remote works fine once you’ve threaded it into place and reliability on sets we’ve trialled long term has been fine, despite the discount price.
