Over-progressive, heavy and looks like a £100 fork, not a £300 item

The Marathon Corsa LT has had a complete reworking for 2008, but the results haven’t been the improvement we hoped.

On the bright side, the new structure ups stiffness to create a decent – if not exceptional – tracking fork, and you still get optional V brake studs. We like the operation of the remote lockout lever, and it should be reliable.

However, for a designated race fork it’s startlingly heavy, with cheap-looking moulding on the crown and lower legs. We had paint flaking off in several places before we even fitted it, too.

In use, the extremely progressive spring feel meant we really struggled to get close to the full 100mm travel. Even at its fastest, the rebound damping is too slow for low rider weights (i.e. racers) and it spiked over bigger/faster hits.
