Touring-specific rigid forks are few and far between, and Tout Terrain’s 26in Steelfork is also disc-specific. We’re big fans of low-maintenance mechanical discs as there’s no rim wear to fret about or annoying rubbing from wheels out of true.
The fork uses an asymmetrical design, with the beefed-up left leg helping to compensate for the twisting action of a disc calliper. Its chromoly construction is suitably burly, while rack and ’guard mounts plus neat disc hose and dynamo routing tick the commuting and touring boxes. The stainless steel disc tab and forward facing dropouts are nice touches too.
With a 420mm axle to crown length it’ll fit a mountain bike frame set up for an 80mm travel suspension fork, and it has plenty of clearance for Schwalbe’s popular Marathon XRs, even in a 2.25in width. The £110 price tag isn’t cheap, but so far, the three-layer powder coating has held up well to the elements.
