Shimano LX Disc Brake review

Shimano LX Disc Brake review

LX is Shimano's workhorse brake. The two-piece calliper means the lever feel is softer than Saint/XT and others, but it's consistent and controllable. The brake comes as a ready-to-ride front and rear lever and calliperset for £120.

Our review
Smooth performance for a good price but ultimately low on power

LX is Shimano's workhorse brake. The two-piece calliper means the lever feel is softer than Saint/XT and others, but it's consistent and controllable.

The heat fade and low overall power we got from the 160mm rotor can be offset by choosing a 180 (£17.95) or 203mm (£19.95) rotor instead. Rotors are also available for Shimano's Center Lock splined system. The brake comes as a ready-to-ride front and rear lever and calliper set for £120, then you buy your choice of rotors and adaptors for the set.

There's no split clamp on the lever, but the post mount callipers are easy to fit and the brake is compatible with Dual Control shifters. It's a reasonable weight too, although you will need bigger rotors to compensate for lower power.
