Hope's Mono Mini brakes have had a total revamp recently, with practical and pimpy results. The new, intricately machined lever and calliper drop some weight and also increase leverage.
It's not eye-popping stopping, but 160mm is okay for most XC use, with 183 and 203mm rotor options for more power and 140mm rear for less weight. Lever feel is sharp and there's plenty of feedback for juggling traction too, and they stay consistent when things get hot.
The lightweight alloy centred 'Floating rotors' pictured here prevent warping though and only add £10.
A change to slotted post mounts makes fitting much easier, and the lever clamps are two piece. They're not ambidextrous though, and they still haven't totally got rid of the 'Mini squeal, either.
Pad life and all-weather performance is good though, and Hope's homegrown Lancashire back up is legendary. Also, the finishing detail is phenomenal, with masses of multi-coloured or custom laser-etched upgrades and new carbon levers, too. Finally, the standard weight is impressive and pricing is also excellent.
