Shimano’s original bottom brackets were legendarily bad, but they’ve cleaned up their act to become one of the best value options around.
The bearings are a lot more secure, so there’s much less chance of crank wobble. Much better sealing means we’re now seeing units last for months in the worst conditions, making them a decent investment.
The negatives are that the cup threads are a bit short for using with bottom bracket mounted (non-ISCG) chain devices, and they won’t fit Truvativ cranksets.
