Our review
Well made 3/4s with a comfortable pad and effective cut

Pearl Izumi’s Elite 3/4s provide that extra bit of defence against chilly autumn air thanks to their knee-covering length and extended upper bib section.

Pearl Izumi’s website reckons the Elites are ideal for warmer days, around 25 degrees, but we’ve found they offer plenty of warmth in lower temperatures. The fabric lacks some wind and water protection, so they’re better for those in-between days when shorts are a bit too chilly, but leggings would be excessive.

For the Elites, Pearl Izumi’s employed its In-R-Cool Coldblack fabric, which is meant to remain comfortably cool in direct sunlight, hence their 25-degree temperature rating. This is joined by the ELITE 3D chamois – the multi-density and thickness pad remained comfy on longer rides, and with its four-way stretch fits the body well. The front of the pad is long and reasonably wide, sitting nicely between the thighs.

The smart in-r-cool fabric seems suitable for use on all but very hot or very cold days: Pearl Izumi

The bib section comes relatively high up the body, offering a bit of extra warmth for the kidneys. The bibs themselves are wide and stretchy, but those with a longer torso might find fit a bit tight.

The legs aren’t articulated, as you might find on pricier 3/4s, but we had no issues with bunching. They’re held together by flatlocked seams and are kept in place with a comfortable non-continuous silicone gripper.
