Weighing only 199g and costing £99.99, 100% hopes the Armega goggles’ tech helps justify the price.
This model is fitted with a 2mm-thick clear lens with a curved, injection-moulded construction. It’s claimed to be shatter- and impact-proof.
Six push-fit tabs help to keep it locked in place, while two quick-release levers – on either side of the frame – are designed to speed up fitment and removal.
Available to buy separately, the 100% ‘ultra HD' HiPER lenses are claimed to offer impressive clarity with improved contrast and make colours more vibrant.
Clear versions – that many mountain bikers prefer – don’t have this tech, however.
Replacement lenses are available from £26.99 for the most basic up to £54.99 for the HiPER. All models are tear-off compatible.
Also injection-moulded, with two types of plastic claimed to improve strength and durability, is the curved frame.
A removable nose piece for extra protection and a dedicated sweat channel, to help move water away from the lens, also feature.
Three-layer foam is claimed to improve comfort and create a 'compression seal' against your face, and help with sweat management.
Outriggers hold a size-adjustable 48mm-wide strap with a silicone bead for grip. A soft carry bag and lens wipe, and tear-off posts are included.
100% Armega performance
The Armega’s semi-rigid, shaped design is great for comfort; even when they’re pulled tight they don’t significantly pinch your nose, and neither do they deform uncomfortably or compress your face.
Strap tightness can be tuned back compared to softer, more flexible goggles without sacrificing stability or fit.
They don’t bounce, wobble or move around on rough, head-shaking terrain, with their curved fit essentially cupping your face.
Not too large, they fit comfortably with a wide range of mountain bike helmets, including Bell’s Full 9, MET’s Parachute MCR and Troy Lee Designs’ A1 and A2.
Their helmet-friendly size, helped by the strap’s outrigger attachments, is well-balanced with a generous field of view; the frame doesn’t encroach into your peripheral vision.
The lens optics are great, too. There were no reflections, distortions or a lack of clarity in a wide range of light conditions from dark to super-bright.
Even in really demanding conditions – with cold, dry air and a hot, humid rider – they take a long time to fog up around the lens edge, and didn't fog up entirely when other goggles would have.
Start moving and the fog clears quickly.
When really taxed, the anti-fog coating works hard to keep moisture away from the lens. Water vapour droplets can form in some areas, distorting vision.
However, this is no worse than other mountain bike goggles on the market, and a quick wipe with the supplied bag clears them.
The quick-release tabs make lens fitment and removal simple and easy. Neither the frame nor lens need to be manipulated to clip together, reducing the chances of lens-smudging fingerprints.
100% Armega bottom line
Comfortable with great fog protection, the Armega’s lens is impressively clear, and easy to install and remove to boot.
There’s very little to dislike about these goggles, but the pickiest riders might want some tear-offs or a spare lens included for the £100 cost.
MTB goggles | How we tested
Senior tech ed Alex took to the trails to test these goggles in his Scottish homeland, famed for its cold, damp weather.
Getting sweaty and hot racing to the trailheads, Alex donned each pair to see how quickly they steamed up before dropping into technical trails in low light.
Their ability to de-mist, provide clear, undistorted optics and enable all-day comfort were key metrics, along with how easy lenses are to change and the types of extras included.
The goggles were tested with a range of full- and open-face helmets to understand their fit.
