Taking design cues from its super-soft, compressive bib shorts of the same name, Velocio launched the LUXE Bra in 2021 after a year of prototyping and testing.
The result is a luxuriously soft, everyday bra that’s great for low-impact activities such as cycling and strength training.
The LUXE sports bra is available in a refreshingly wide range of sizes and will set you back a not inconsiderable £56 / $69 / €66.
Velocio LUXE Bra specifications and details
With a simple pull-on crop-top design, the Velocio LUXE Bra shares both the soft main fabric and elasticated microfibre straps used in the brand’s popular bib shorts.
The LUXE material is a compression fabric constructed from a matt polyamide/elastane blend.
An elasticated band is stitched within the main body of the bra, which sits around the rib cage.
The back panel is lower than the front chest panel, which is perforated in the centre with 24 holes to improve ventilation. Both are topped with a thin, soft black trim.
Just like the shorts, the bra is offered in a wide range of sizes and colourways.
Velocio LUXE Bra performance
I first tried the medium-sized LUXE bra, based on the sizing chart that takes height and weight into account. However, I had to size up to a large, which was still quite snug around the chest band.
For reference, I’m a 36B in regular bras, which usually puts me far from the ‘large’ category.
Velocio does warn about this, stating: "The LUXE Bra lower band is extremely compressive and does not fit like a normal bra. For a fit that may be more familiar to you, we suggest sizing up one to two sizes."
Let’s face it, sizing guides are confusing enough already, why then add in extra complication rather than adjust the guide itself to compensate for the garment’s irregular fit?
If I were to order the bra again, I would size up once more to XL, because I found the tight chest band caused some discomfort after four hours or so.
I’ve been using Velocio’s LUXE bras for the last couple of years for cycling, hiking and gym work and have been getting on pretty well with them.
The crop-top design is simple and easy to use, although if you want more coverage you’d be better off looking elsewhere; these bras still let nipples show through thin layers in the cold.
The clever laser-cut holes at the front add to the breathability for high-intensity workouts, and with minimal coverage on the back I’ve never been left feeling too sweaty there.
Just like the straps of the Velocio LUXE bib shorts, which are one of my all-time favourite options, the bra straps are wide, soft and stay perfectly in place.
With a single layer of the LUXE compression fabric, you won’t get the level of support or coverage that you would from more highly engineered high-impact bras.
While I found the support was ample for cycling, if I was looking for a true multi-sport option that could handle running too, I’d look elsewhere.
Having used these bras on heavy rotation since 2021, I can say they wash up well and are built to last, which is good to know seeing as they’re no small investment.
Finally, I really like the range of colourways Velocio offers with its bras. Using the same material as the bib shorts, there’s likely to be a win in there in terms of minimising resource wastage, too.
How we tested | sports bras
Our sports bras were tested over a range of road, gravel and mountain biking rides at different intensities.
Expert tester Katherine Moore measures a British size 36B in conventional bras, with sports bras selected for testing based on individual brand sizing guidelines and recommendations.

Velocio LUXE Bra bottom line
For a minimal yet comfortable sports bra for low-impact activities, the LUXE Bra is a great option, once you can get the sizing right.
However, if you’re looking for a bra that will double up for running and cycling, then you may be better off spending your money elsewhere.
