Our review
A quality set of bibs that offer a comfortable ride with a brilliant pad yet don’t break the bank

Pros:

Excellent pad; overall performance

Cons:

Long legs; sizing on small size

Castelli's Endurance 3 bib shorts claim to offer endurance-level comfort and, to this end, the brand's range-topping Progetto X2 Air Seamless pad is specced.

The high-end Progetto pad is constructed from two separate layers: a soft, stretchy top layer designed to prevent rubbing, and a perforated cushioning layer with dual-density foam and gel inserts.

These bibs feature an anatomical cut using Castelli’s Endurance Evolution fabric, which is designed to support the muscles. It’s smooth and quick-drying, to work well whether you’re riding in warm weather or sweating it out on the trainer.

The straps and uppers are breathable open mesh.

Castelli Endurance 3 performance

As with other Italian brands, sizing is on the small side but as a relatively slim rider, I found my usual size small was sufficient.

The overall fit is good, as is the construction, typical of Castelli. I did find the legs to be longer than some, which meant the ribbed Giro3 grippers weren’t always flat behind my upper knees, but they kept the legs in place and never felt tight or hampered performance.

The Endurance Evolution fabric is nicely supportive where you need it yet feels unrestrictive, and the upper bibs are cool and comfy and do a good job of wicking sweat.

The straps aren’t flat like some and do have outer seams, but these went unnoticed once pedalling.

Where these bibs really shine is the pad. The Progetto X2 Air pad performed wonderfully, however long I was in the saddle. While not as thick as some, I found there to be ample padding and the gel around the sit bones provides a perfectly pain-free ride.

Castelli Endurance 3 bottom line

These aren’t expensive compared to some Castelli shorts, but the brand hasn’t compromised on fit or rear-end comfort. I did find the legs a little long on my short upper legs, but for most riders this shouldn’t be an issue.
