Among the very best weatherproof shorts on the market

Good quality waterproof shorts are one of those items that you’ll never know you need until you own them. We stress the word ‘quality’ because there was a time we used to wear cut-off cheap waterproof trousers for bike testing in the filthiest conditions.

While they did their job in terms of spray protection, they quickly became sweaty and usually wore through after a few gritty saddle sessions. Scott’s Paclite offering is completely weatherproof, well shaped, reinforced in all the right places and very breathable. They’re among the nicest made and best fitting over-shorts we’ve tested.

They’re roughly knee length and have a comfy elasticated waistband with an extra panel of proofed elasticated material at the back just below the waistband so that they don’t drag down as you reach for the bars. There’s plenty of reflective bits for night riding too. Like all shell shorts, they’re at their best with padded Lycra underneath. They may be pricey but you’re paying for the quality.
