The Ranger is Fox’s cross-country/trail offering, and as such it’s made from a lighter-weight fabric than the company’s more heavy duty all-mountain/freeride/downhill shorts, with legs that end just above the knee when in the saddle, for unimpeded pedalling.
Velcro tabs let you adjust the waist, and there’s a good selection of pockets (four, one zipped). The 100 percent nylon shell fends off bramble thorns effectively, boding well for long-term durability.
Fox’s liners have improved over the past few years but the one included here still isn’t up there with the best on the market – the spandex inner short is comfy enough, but the padding isn’t very generous. For £52 this is a minor grumble though.
