These Trail cargo shorts and bib liner from ASSOS have been designed to work together. You can wear both independently or extend their use with other kit, but once you’ve ridden in them you’ll be spoiled and won’t want anything else.
Having tested most high-end bike shorts over the past 10 years and knowing where weaknesses are found, I can confidently state that these are the best yet – aside from the high price, I can’t fault them.
The bib liner is made with the seams on the outside for a frictionless, next-to-skin feel. While the wide straps felt as though they were going to be too tight when I first pulled it on, they fit perfectly.
There are pockets at the back, with a pouch construction that sits over the outer shorts when loaded. This stops anything heavy in the pockets from pulling the back of the liner down.
The minimal outer shorts again sit perfectly on the bike – they follow the racing line, if you like. There’s a section of gripper to hold the no-fly stretch waist firmly in place against the liner beneath, and it really does have a barely-there feel. The reflective back seam is the icing on the cake.
Sell a relative, pawn the watch... if you ride a lot of miles, you’ll want both of these, and they’re well worth the investment.
