Top quality: well made, well cut, and weatherproof. High price is an issue, though

This gilet is made primarily from Assos' own airBlock and X-Zero fabrics, plus a large panel of mesh, and feels a bit like you're wearing an all-over Gore Windstopper glove. It fits like one too. The cut is skinny-roadie close, with good elastication.

The high, almost ruff-like collar, is stiff but snug and comfortable. There's no flap to the front zip, although this didn't seem to be especially draughty. Indeed, it's an excellent cold weather gilet.

On a wet day, the press-studded tail can be dropped down to keep wheel spray off your backside. For storage, there's a zipped pocket on the front that's good for valuables or gloves. A couple of reflective strips give some night-time visibility, although more would be better. Reinforced corners to the front zip are just one pointer towards the likely longevity of this gilet and looser walleted cyclists than me will surely love it.
