Our review
Decent lightweight softshell that would benefit from toggles

Surface is the new clothing brand from the talented people at Charge Bikes. Although initially aimed at the ever-growing fixie/urban scene, their kit looks set to appeal to a lot of mountain bikers too.

Their Windjammer jacket is a lightweight, windproof softshell. The retro purple looks might not appeal to your tastes but the jacket’s also available in black and lime.

It crushes down into absolutely no space at all making it perfect for stashing in your pack. The fit is good and there’s a handy breast pocket for essentials too. Our only complaint is the lack of fasteners on either the cuffs or the waist.

Although light and roomy, the lack of toggles means that you can get the dreaded billow now and again, and heat retention is also pretty poor. That said, it does a decent job of fending off windchill and keeps all but the most torrential wet stuff at bay too.
